Allie and Die Schnelle break the 80% mark!

It’s been a hot, humid summer in Texas, but that doesn’t keep us Texans from working our horses! I’ve finally graduated from TAMU and am working full time at Chestnut Creek Farm in College Station, Texas. http://www.chestnutcreekfarm.org/  An over sized covered arena with incredible felt/sand footing allows us to train year round in any weather.  This weekend in Katy, Texas Die Schnelle, a 4 year old bred and owned by farm owner Ashlee Watts, and I competed in Training level and First level. As a 4 year old, she is quite trusting of me, but still has moments of checking her surroundings out. She is becoming more and more relaxed in the show ring, and we were rewarded this weekend with an 82%  at Training-3 and a  77.9% in First-3. I couldn’t be prouder of this red head and can’t wait to see what her future brings- This year’s GOAL: US Finals in November.

2019!

I can’t believe it’s 2019! I will graduate from Texas A&M this May with a degree in Agricultural Leadership and minor in Horticulture. Finally, I will be able to start coaching and training full time! I have been boarding, coaching, and training at Chestnut Creek Farm which is owned by Ashlee Watts and her husband Chuck. They  have started a Westphalian breeding program and happen to have entrusted their first foal, the lovely 4 year old chestnut mare, Die Schnelle to me to train. Nelly and I completed our first qualifier in the USEF four year old division receiving a 7.8! Stay tuned for updates!

Season Opener!

It was an interesting week of weather lows and unexpected warm ups. Oddly enough since we’ve lived in Houston, 12 years, it’s never snowed here,  but we have had it snow twice this winter! So much for global warming theories! After getting stuck at home for two icy days, Allie had 2 days to tune Gary up for his first show in a long while! They decided to compete in the Intermediate A class which is a schooling test for horses preparing for Grand Prix.

It was a very successful weekend! Allie and Gary earned a 68 for Saturday’s ride and a 70 for Sunday’s. They gained good experience in putting all the moves together, and it boosted their confidence. We have some upcoming Jeremy Steinberg clinics to fine tune the piaffe/passage transitions before Allie will begin qualifiers for the U25! It will be an exciting year to watch them and see what happens. Additionally, Allie has been asked to teach a monthly clinic at MCC in Waco which she is very excited about as well as a clinic in College Station for some young up and coming Dressage youth!

Starting the New Year off right!

It’s been a long year of horsey issues. Allie was glad to get the thumbs up from coach, Jeremy Steinberg, in a clinic in Hempstead, Tx this past weekend! Allie has been attending Texas A &M University for the past 2 years. It was a tough decision, but after making the hour long commute to ride every other day, she decided it was time to move Gary closer to campus. She’s been training on her own since moving in November. During the clinic , Allie was rewarded with positive remarks from Jeremy. Breaking out on your own at 19 can be daunting. She’s had training questions about the Grand Prix movements but has used her intuition and feel to steadily improve the quality of the work. Amy Bakhri and her husband, Sandeep, hosted the weekend at their lovely facility. It was great to see good friends, watch great rides, and catch up with Jeremy!
We are looking forward to a great 2018!

Busy Working Summer

It’s been a while since the last post!!  Allie and Gary traveled to Loxahatchee in January and had a fantastic month training with and working for Pamela Goodrich and her team. These 2 have been schooling all the grand prix moves and went out and tried an Intermediare II test. They realized Gary still had some more strength training to do, but things are moving in the right direction. In early March,  Gary started having some days where he just didn’t feel quite right. Upon further investigation we found out he was in need of some corrective shoeing. It’s taken awhile to find the right system to make him happy again, but thanks to Dr Ashlee Watts at Texas A&M we found one! I am happy to report that he’s back in full work and getting stronger every day. It’s still Allie’s goal to one day ride in the Under 25 division on Gary. They will be working with Jeremy Steinberg as well as Nancy Hinz this fall to see if their dream can become a reality!!!

On a another note Allie finished her Freshman year at Texas A&M on the Dean’s List!! Whoop! Then, she spent her summer working horses, riding, as well as coaching. She worked from  sun up to sun down traveling all over Houston. It was a great experience working with great people and horses.

Headed to Double Bridle Farm in Loxahatchee!

img_6782Allie and Gary have been training all Fall towards the Grand Prix. They have been clinicing with Pam Goodrich and Jeremy Steinberg and have made great progress. Allie’s ultimate goal has always been to ride in the U25/Brentina Cup Finals with Gary. Because they are both learning together,  it has been challenging, but oh so rewarding. However, this past week Gary has finally started nailing lines of 15 one tempis! Everyone has said for the past 2 years- “Oh if he can do 5 then  15 will be no problem”. Well, it’s been fun watching them get closer and closer to the goal of 15. Especially knowing that Allie is training them with the coaching of Nancy Hinz, who Allie has trained with for 10 years. She is just 18 afterall and Gary was a training level 7 year old when we started working with him just 6 years ago. We are not sure he will be ready to show U25 in 2017- but it will be close! This is an amazing sport! What these horses can do with correct strength training is really very special to watch. This winter break Allie and Gary will be training at Pam Goodrich’s winter facility, Double Bridle Farm. She’s looking forward to being her working student for some intense training for a full month!  Allie was honored to be invited to the Robert Dover Horsemastership clinic again this year. Unfortunately,  her job prevented her from accepting. She’s looking forward to seeing all the friends that she’s made there in years past though!
